How often should I vacuum my new carpet?
Here is a transcription, if you prefer to read instead:
“This next question happens to be one of the top five questions that we get. “What kind of vacuum should I use, and how often should I vacuum?” The answer is that you should vacuum, according to the manufacturer in order to keep the warranty. You should vacuum, at least, one time per entity in the home. What do I mean by entity? Humans are entities and pets are entities. So if you have a couple with three children, that’s five and two dogs that’s seven. So you’re probably going to have to vacuum once a day, seven days a week in order to keep that carpet looking really good all the time. I’m not saying that you have to vacuum every single day, but it is recommended.
The other part of that question is, “Which vacuum should I use?” You can use any vacuum that you want provided that it doesn’t have a beater bar. A beater bar is a raised bead on the cylinder that spins around. Sometimes, there’s two rows of brushes. Other times there’s one row of brushes and another row that’s called a beater bar. Again it’s a tall, raised plastic. That thing spins around so fast and if you have an aggressive vacuum or a good vacuum, it’ll spin around so fast that it hits the top of those fibers and it smashes them down over time. So definitely avoid a beater bar. If at all possible, if your vacuum has a beater bar, check to see if that can be turned off or on so you just have straight suction and no brushing or beating.”
